One more note on the service: we had to wave someone down for the glass of water my wife had requested and for more coffee and tortillas, but I'm not letting this take part in the review since there was only two employees serving about 26 guests and we all arrived almost at the same time. However, if this a recurring issue, I'm afraid I might have to take one star away.
All in all, I won't be visiting this restaurant for breakfast other than pancakes. My 3 star rating is only temporary. We're yet to try their lunch and/or dinner menu and once we do, I'll be sure to update my review.
We ordered two pancakes to split up between my wife and I. This was honestly what boosted the rating up to 3 stars. I don't know what recipe they're using or how they prepared them, but they were amazing. So much so, that we compared them to the pancakes served at Cracker Barrel. The "butter" and syrup were typical bottom-shelf-quality items, but it honestly didn't matter. The taste of these pancakes were so incredible that even I, an avid pancake maker, was caught off guard.
It used to be better but their quality on the food preparation has gone down in the last few years. I started coming to JC's years ago when they started at the old El Patio Cafe building on Closner that is now torn down.
The food is nasty. Don't go there. Service was not good.
Tried this place out today for the first time. I knew it was a mom and pop restaurant before coming in, and a good friend mentioned their good coffee, so my wife and I decided to give it a go.
Delicious chorizo plate! Recommend it.
The food came out in a timely manner. We ordered the JC's Special (chilaquiles and eggs) and had some coffee. The coffee was very decent: a little weak for my preference, but I give it a thumbs up because I know I can drink some bitter coffee and enjoy it. The eggs were cooked as requested for both my wife and I, the beans had a homemade taste, and the chilaquiles had a great flavor and the right amount of spicy kick. The potatoes were cooked well but were lackluster. They had no seasoning at all. The serving was very limited for both the chilaquiles and potatoes, so naturally by the end of my meal I still felt hungry for more.
First up, the staff (and one of the reasons why I'm giving this place 3 stars and not higher). The gentleman was very friendly, professional, and attentive. I'm not so fond of him wearing his large earring, but I just brushed it off as flair a lá Office Space. The waitress, however, was another story. She seemed kind and a good person, but the problem is that she seems jaded. Her lack of professionalism and mannerisms were very off-putting.
The food is home cooked as it should be. Its always delicious and finger licking awesomeness... The regular table waiting staff ate always on the alert and attentive for what the customer is needing, for the exception of today's visit during breakfast. Don't if this new waitress, I think her name is Denise, well anyway don't know if she was just partiming or filling on a shift. She spent most of our breakfast hanging around with her boyfriend by the entrance door of the restaurant, I know Juan wouldn't agree with that, and I hope he reads this because that is not good for business and her boyfriend was a distraction to her doing her duties while the other waiter was busting his ass and picking up her slack...
